Hopewell Group of Companies
Our Story
Established in 1990 by Sanders Lee and the Lee family, Hopewell Group initially held a modest portfolio of residential and commercial land in the Calgary region. By 1993, this portfolio expanded to include residential, commercial, and industrial development and has since grown to encompass homebuilding, community development, property management, logistics management, property technology (PropTech), and venture capital investment.
Today, Hopewell Group has grown to include seven separate companies; Hopewell Capital, Hopewell Residential, Hopewell Development, Hopewell Real Estate Services, Hopewell Logistics, and affiliate company Groundbreak Ventures.

Under Sanders’ leadership, Hopewell has evolved to become a collaborative, yet diverse Group of scalable platform companies, allowing it to innovate and adapt to industry trends with agility. The Group’s extensive industry networks and deep domain knowledge are anchored by core values — dedication, innovation, shared success, accountability, and teamwork.
An active member of the Calgary business community, Sanders was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 1999. He supports visionary entrepreneurs in healthcare, renewable energy, education, logistics, and property technology. Further to that, in 2021 Sanders made a $10 million philanthropic commitment to establish the Hopewell M.I.N.D. (Maximizing Innovation in Neuroscience Discovery) Prize in partnership with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary. This unique prize serves as a catalyst for bold, high-impact brain and mental health research, awarding up to $1 million annually for projects at critical junctures, with the potential to drive transformative community impact.
Through Hopewell’s established strengths in real estate, commercial development, property management, and logistics — complemented by expertise in final mile delivery and property technology — Sanders champions a people-first approach to innovation. His vision ensures the Group’s initiatives remain at the forefront of a rapidly evolving industry landscape.
